School and community center (requested project)

Balkuy, Ouagadougou

The project site of Balkuy is located in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, a city that like many African capitals suffers from the effects of massive rural-to-urban migration. Infrastructural provisions such as water supply, roads and schools put a large toll on the municipality.
The school and community center is located on an empty lot designated for public facilities within the planned city. However, these lots are often neglected and reduced to illegal dumping sites. Designed as a green oasis in the middle among dusty streets and empty lots, the complex intended to benefit and serve the entire residential neighborhood by increasing the quality of life in its surroundings.
